Hello people (and more specifically god-mod Sam),
My parents have asked me what to get me for Christmas. I see computer shit opportunity. Seeing as Sam is really the only one knowledgeable on this, what do you think I should be working on?

First of all, figure out your bottleneck(s). If you have too many it's probably better to get a new computer.
Post specs. (motherboard, video card, amount of ram, hard drive, power supply (i think yours was 350 or 450), etc)
I actually think you might just want to get a new comp... maybe reuse the case.

Okay! Scratch that! Apparently, my mother wants me to list off parts and then ask her tech guy (He's like chief engineer at Tecnet, it's really quite a good company) to find a computer(?) doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever.

Fuck the alienware. The NCIX build you posted is pretty good. Although it is pretty high end... 6 gigs of ram, 1 terabyte of hard drive space, a 407$ graphics card, crossfirex support and a huge fucking case seem like a bit much. (as for the power supply thing, 750 watts is plenty for this system, unless you feel like running two gpus...) pc.ncix.com/ncixpc/ncixpc.cfm?uuid=8FDBCA6E-04B5-424A-847A22C22976391A-3140692this seems a little more sensible, but it is up to you. www.tecnet.ca/corporate.aspseems kinda strange that your mom wants these guys to make it. Anyway, just let me know what that tech guy is planning. He will probably be more knowledgeable than me.

Alright, so it's likely that I'll either be getting the NCIX one you suggested or the one I suggested, albeit with the 6870 rather than the 5870 (the 58 costs much more cuz it's a rendering graphics card)

okay. Go for the more expensive one lol.
and see if you can find a comparison for i7 930 and 950. For just 19$ you can have a processor with a higher number than the other one. Looks good to me.
okay lets have a look at what we've got:
Motherboard - asus x58 board that supports crossfirex and usb 3.0. (OMG USB 3.0) CPU - i7 930 or 950 (WOOTS higher number). Should rape any game you want to play. RAM - 6 gigs of corsair ram. HOLY FUCKING 6 GIGS OF RAM BATMAN!! Video Card(s) - XFX hd 6870. holy shit man. (btw it is probably better to get the XFX version because they offer a pretty sick warranty if i remember correctly) I'm not sure if this is the best card for the money, but w/e. Case - get the coolermaster HAF 932 if you feel like being a beast with a FUCKING HUGE CASE. (seriously the fan is like as wide as the motherboard XD)... it is probably better to get a mid tower case. I'll leave it up to you to find a case you like. just be sure to tell me what, and make sure that the video card will fit. Monitor - got that covered. Hard Drive - ONE FUCKING TERABYTE LAWL. 98$ is actually pretty good for one terabyte.. I dunno if you really need all that space but w/e. OS - windows 7. Power supply - corsair 750 watt. should be more than enough.

It may be beastly HUGE, but its totally worth it when you hear the BEAST ROAR on start up. btw I am not biased or anything, i totally don't have a COOLERMASTER!!! WOOTS

Here are my comp's specs (most are probably overkill, but w/e. It'll last me a good 4-5 years)
Intel i7 950 CPU Asus Rampage 3 Gene motherboard 6 gigs G.skill RAM at 1333 Video Card-Asus 5850 something (I'll update once I remember the rest) Case- Coolermaster HAF 912-cheap, small and fucking awesome Hard drive-Western digital 640GB 7200 RPM PSU- Coolermaster GX750W OS-Windows 7 Monitor-Asus VH-222H-a 22 inch MEGA BEAST (ok, so this is needless overkill...) Sony DVD/CD Player
All in all, about 1500-1600 dollars.
