Oh man, that sucks. What kind of cancer is it? I hope he's okay. That's terrible.
Jill's brother is mentally ill. He has attempted suicide multiple times and ran away multiple times. He has hallucinations, some kind of learning disability, and mood swings(they haven't really pin pointed what it is yet because they're idiots). He was in Ledger house (a children and youth psychiatric hospital) for 7 months.
He recently turned 17 which meant that he couldn't stay in ledger for much longer because it's only for 12-16 year olds. If he has to go back to a mental institution it will be an adult one - which is pretty scary.
A couple weeks ago they released him from Ledger. After being on and off medications for months, he stabilized for a week and the psychologist decided that they couldn't ethically keep him there. So he had to stay at home. Jill's family simply isn't equipped to house him. He needs to be watched 24/7 so he doesn't run away again or kill himself. They had to screw down all the windows and lock away all their medication in a safe. They still have kitchen knives and no way to lock their doors from the inside-what's to stop him from cutting himself or walking out the front door? It's just such a brutal situation for everyone.
He seemed pretty calm and well-adjusted (relative) for the past couple weeks, but he was a ticking time bomb. He got upset at school (they got him to go for half the day) and when he got home he ran away.
Jill lives really close to Esquimalt lagoon. Jill and her dad tried to stop him but he got out. Jill had to chase him in the dark while it was raining, wading through the lagoon and into the forest. They called 911 and the cops almost released the dogs into the forest (with Jill still chasing him which would have been a nightmare, dogs can hurt people and can't discriminate). Eventually they caught him and took him to the hospital, where he still is right now.
It just sucks. It's all been so hard on Jill and her family. It's hard to see a happy ending to all this. It makes me really sad.

It's colon cancer.
And shit that's awful. Unfortunately Victoria has nothing in terms of mental health care for people transitioning between childhood and adulthood. I hope Jill and her family end up okay.

Well her brother is back at home. Irritable, but stable. Could have ended up much worse.
Is your dad going to get surgery or chemo? My grandmother had colon cancer (they caught it early) and the treatment was really easy. It sucks that they caught your dad's cancer at stage 2, colon cancer is easily treatable when it's caught early.
I hope your dad gets better.
